Thomas Cup 2022: Indonesia vs India preview

There is a first time for everything. That familiar line can be related to the final matchup of Indonesia and India.

Overview

This year’s finalists at the BWF Thomas Cup Finals 2022 could not be any more different to each other. On one side is a first timer at this stage of the tournament, the other the most successful team of this competition.

The Indonesian squad is top-heavy and can be considered formidable in both singles and doubles. They have two top ten players in the singles rankings (Anthony Ginting, 5; Jonatan Christie, 8) and their other go-to singles player is in the top 30 (Shesar Rhustavito, 24). Kevin Sukamuljo is without his fellow number one partner, but Indonesia brought three pairs who are in the top 20.

India’s contingent might not be as impressive, but they are no slouches either. Lakshya Sen is currently ranked ninth, with Srikanth Kidambi is bubbling under the top ten. Third singles regular Prannoy HS is 23rd in the world in men’s singles.

Their best rated duo is Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. Arjun MR and Dhruv Kapila are the next highest in rank, although Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala were the ones who has seen action in the knockout rounds.
