Sindhu eyes All England title after French Open loss

SINDHU OUT TO END INDIA’S TITLE DROUGHT IN ENGLAND
The 28-year-old two-time Olympic medallist seeks to end India’s 23-year title drought in the tournament that starts on Tuesday.
Sindhu reached the quarterfinals of the French Open Super 750 competition last week.
However, she absorbed a 24-22 17-21 18-21 loss to China’s reigning Olympic champion Yu Fei on Friday.
Chen, however, failed to defend her title in Paris after losing to Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, 21-15, 18-21, 22-20, in the semifinals.
Yamaguchi yielded to eventual women’s singles champion An Se-young of South Korea in the final, 18-21, 21-13 21-10.
SINDHU COULD FACE AN EARLY TOUGH DRAW
Sindhu’s goal for India in England faces an early roadblock. The 5-foot-10 Hyderabad native will have to get past An in the tournament should she hurdle her opening matches in Birmingham.
Legendary Indian shuttler Prakash Padukone, who won an All England title for India in 1980, hopes to guide Sindhu all the way.
The duo were together in Paris when Sindhu dragged Yu in three sets before losing.
Aside from Sindhu other prominent Indian shuttlers who will play in England include newly crowned French Open champions, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.
World No.7 HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen will also play for India in Birmingham.
