YU QI WINS INDONESIA OPEN MEN’S TITLE BY TOPPLING ANTONSEN

World No.2 Yu Qi won the men’s singles title by toppling Danish shuttler Antonsen, 21-9, 12-21, 21-14, at the Istora Senayan arena in Jakarta on Sunday.

Yu Qi convincingly took the opening set before Antonsen fought back to force a decider.

Interestingly, the Chinese shuttler got his bearings back in the final set to finish off Antonsen in 71 minutes.

Furthermore, the 28-year-old became the first Chinese shuttler to win the tournament since the 1980s.

“This proves that the efforts of the Chinese men’s singles team are very strong right now,” Yu Qi said.

YU FEI CLAIMS WOMEN’S TITLE, OUTLASTS AN SE-YOUNG IN FINAL

World No.2 Yu Fei made it a double win for China after outlasting South Korea’s An Se-young, 21-14, 14-21, 21-18.

The female Chinese shutter, like Yu Qi, took the opening set with ease.

However, Se-young battled back and tied the match behind an impressive play in the middle set.

Yu Fei finally got separation after an 18-all tie in the decider to churn out the victory.

“In this match, I didn’t focus too much on the outcome but prioritized the process,” Yu Fei said.

“That was the key to my victory this time,” she added.

DOUBLES PAIR MADE IT A CHINA TREBLE WIN BY BEATING MALAYSIAN DUO

Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang made it a treble win for China by beating Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, 19-21,21-16, 21-12, in the men’s doubles final.

The Chinese pair overcame an opening set letdown to dominate their Malaysian counterparts in the final two sets to snag the title.

It was a strong run for Wei Chong and Kai Wun, who toppled high-profile pairs to reach this fair.

Malaysia’s world No.20 pair ousted world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea, and Indonesian bets Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi to reach the final.

Furthermore, the win installed Wai Keng and Wang Chang as favorites to win in the Paris Olympics next month.
