Quarterfinals’ Highlights

Korea were the first team to seal their progress into the final four after their victory 3-1 Chinese Taipei.

The lead was early stored as An Se Young’s women’s singles win over Tai Tzu Ying, before Lee Yang and Ye Hong Wei retired in the second game of their men’s doubles clash to seal Korea’s place in the final four.

The unfortunate left ankle injury caused Lee Yang’s disappointed withdrawn as Chinese Taipei struggled to earn a point.

Chou Tien Chien was the only winner who beat Lee Yun Gyu to make it 1-1.

Axelsen’s injury

Meanwhile, Malaysia booked their place with a 3-1 win over Denmark, but there was a catch as the European nation’s top player, men’s world number one Viktor Axelsen, retired injured from his men’s singles clash with Lee Zii Jia.

It’s hard to say that the Malaysia’s ace was fully satisfied after his counterpart limped out just a few points in the anticipated clash.

The World No.1 appeared to suffer from hamstring injury which eventually forced his retirement just five minutes into the opening game.

Zii Jia’s win double the lead for Malaysia as Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei had earlier won the opening game 15-21, 21-14, 21-7 against Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje in the mixed doubles.

After the game, the Danish ace revealed his scan result on twitter:

“The MRI scan I went though yesterday showed what we expected, which is a muscle strain in my left hamstring. I’m therefore not able to be on court for the next time being and will miss the next few tournaments. I’m taking one day at a time and I’m looking forward to…”
