JUN HAO STUNS ANTHONY FOR FIRST WIN IN 3 OUTINGS
Jun Hao sent word No.7 Ginting packing with a 21-14, 10-21, 21-8 victory in men’s singles action.
Malaysia’s world No.36 raced to a 13-1 lead in the decider and he sustained his form to finish off the Indonesian standout for the first time in three career meetings.
“Overall, I feel that I played aggressively throughout the match. Of course, I’m very happy to have won this game because it represents a breakthrough for me,” Jun Hao said.
“This time, I was well prepared against him (Ginting). In the past, he was always very strong offensively, and I would end up being overpowered by him,” he added.
The win enabled Jun Hao to reach the quarterfinals in an unfamiliar territory.
The Malaysian hopes to snatch another upset when he next faces world No.1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark for a place in the semifinals.
JOLLY AND GOPICHAND UPSET SOUTH KOREAN WOMEN’S PAIR
