LUCKY DRAW KEY TO MALAYSIAN SHUTTLERS IN PARIS, SAYS HAMIDIN

Malaysia’s national shuttlers will need the luck of the draw in the Paris Games’ badminton tournament, said national contingent chef de mission Hamidin Amin.

Hamidin agrees with Badminton Association of Malaysia president Norza Zakaria in citing the need of a favorable to boost the team’s chances in Paris.

“The draw we get in Paris will be very important,” Hamidin said at a press conference on Tuesday as reported by New Straits Times.

“From there (draw), we can gauge how the competition will be in most of the categories,” he added.

Men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik as capable of beating the top players with the right draw, the official said.

Hamidin also cited Lee Zii Jia’s potential to land a medal in Paris.

Zii Jia placed second in the Malaysia Masters on Sunday.

Viktor Axelsen praised Zii Jia after the men’s final.

“It’s awesome to have him (Zii Jia) back playing this well,” the Dane said.

MALAYSIAN SHUTTLERS MUST AVOID SOCIAL MEDIA

Hamidin also cited the need for the national shuttlers to avoid social media.

“I told them that if they are not strong mentally, don’t look at social media. Just focus on preparing for Paris,” the official said.

“We are aware that the public has high expectations of the athletes,” he added.

By avoiding outside distractions like social media, Hamidin feels that Malaysia has a chance to win.

“This is something they (athletes) have to learn to manage (social media and other distractions),” he said.
