MALAYSIAN MEN’S PAIR TOPPLE FRENCH DUO

The Malaysian men’s doubles pair swept French pair Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi, 21-13, 21-14, as they aim for a slot in the Paris Olympics. Yew Sin and Ee Yi are next scheduled to face Denmark’s world No.35 Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard for a place in the quarter-finals.

The Malaysian world No.12 will need to reach the top eight of this tournament to advance to the Paris Games. Yen Sin and Ee Yi are currently No.13 in the Race to Paris rankings.

Malaysia hopes to bring Yen Sin and Ee Yi to Paris after Aaron Chia and Soh Woon Yik (No.5) already secured their slot.

INDIAN SINGLES PLAYERS ALSO ADVANCE

Meanwhile, India’s women’s singles shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap, and men’s singles player Sathish Kumar Karunakaran also defeated their respective opponents.

Women’s world No.43 Kashyap ousted world No.79 Polina Buhrova of Ukraine, 23-21,  17-21,11-21, to reach the round of 16. Kashyap will next battle world No.22 Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark for a quarter-final spot.

Karunakaran posted a 21-18, 19-21, 21-19 upset win over world No.45 Misha Zilberman of Israel. The men’s World No.50 will next take on No.42 Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in the round of 16.
