JUN HAO ADVANCES TO INDONESIA OPEN LAST 8 AFTER PREVIOUS UPSET WIN

Jun Hao advanced to the quarterfinals after he pulled off a 21-18, 13-21, 21-17 win over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.

Malaysia’s world No.32 recovered in time after yielding the second set to oust the world No.11 at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

The win followed up Jun Hao’s shocking 21-13, 16-21, 21-12 victory over world No.3 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in his opening-round match.

A week earlier, Jun Hao took out another Indonesian Anthony Ginting at the Singapore Open.

It was a tough loss for Tien Chen, a former winner in 2019 who hoped to go on a deep run in Jakarta this year.

SINDHU CRASHES OUT IN FIRST ROUND

India’s top women’s singles shuttler Sindhu crashed out of the competition after yielding a 15-21, 21-15, 14-21 decision against Hsu Wen-chi of Chinese Taipei.

The double Olympic medallist failed to go on a deep run at a BWF Super 1000 tournament for a second consecutive time

Sindhu also lost in the second round of the Indonesia Open.

Wen-chi needed an hour and 10 minutes to eliminate Sindhu, who lost to her Taiwanese opponent for the first time.

Meanwhile, India’s women’s doubles pair Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda lost to South Korea’s No.6 seed Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong, 12-21, 9-21.

AARON-WOOI YIK FALL SHORT IN LAST 16 MATCH

Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fell short, as they absorbed a 21-16, 21-14 setback against Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han of Chinese Taipei.

Malaysia’s world No.5 men’s doubles pair never got going early in the opening set, as they allowed the world No.25 duo to run away with the victory.

It was a heartbreaking loss for Aaron and Wooi Yik, who were hoping to add another trophy before playing in the Paris Olympics next month.

The Malaysian duo were runners-up in last year’s competition.

Aaron and Wooi Yik managed to advance to the quarterfinals of both the Malaysia Masters and Singapore Open before getting eliminated.
