Indonesia beats Thailand to enter Uber Cup semis

Ester Nurumi Tri Wardyo clinched the winning point for Indonesia after an impressive 19-21, 21-19, 21-19 comeback win over Supanida Katethong.

It took 83 minutes for Ester to dispatch Supanida and secure the semifinal spot for Indonesia.

Despite battling fatigue, the 18-year-old managed to outlast her first-set collapse and defeat the Thai shuttler, who is ranked world number 11.

“After 14 years, we are finally in the semifinals, which also happens to be our target. I’m so happy but there’s another match tomorrow,” said Ester, ranked 38th in the world.

World No 9 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung gave Indonesia the opening point with a 22-20 21-18 triumph over former world champion Rachanok Intanon.

This is Tunjung’s first victory against the Thai in over nine meetings.

The Indonesian duo of Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti rolled over Thailand’s Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai, 21-17, 21-14.

Indonesia will face defending champions South Korea in the semifinals on Saturday.

South Korea also romped Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, 3-0.
