An turns emotional on her badminton return

An, 22, previously won gold in the women’s singles event of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

She competed in the women’s team event at the Miryang Badminton Stadium, where fans welcomed her return with loud cheers.

“It was my first match since the Olympics, and I was so happy that many people still remembered and cheered for me,” she said after the event.

“I felt pressure to do well, but I’m glad everything went according to plan.”

An became emotional as she reflected on her badminton return.

“I think I waited two months for this moment. I just wanted those who came to watch and enjoy my game, and I expressed my feelings after the match,” she stated.

The young rising star made a two-month hiatus to recover from her knee and ankle injuries.

“I was really exhausted preparing for the Olympics without any break, but I’ve rested well. My physical condition has improved, and I feel like I’m at about 70 to 80 percent of my best form now.”

“I believe I’ll reach No. 1 again”

An was previously ranked No. 1 in the world before Chen Yufei of China took over her spot.

“I’ve achieved my dream, so I thought it was okay to enjoy myself a bit. I didn’t focus too much on the ranking,” An said.

“If I continue to enjoy playing badminton, I believe I’ll reach No. 1 again.”

After winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, An criticized the national team’s injury management, training methods, and the association’s decision-making for hindering player performance and development.

When asked if the changes are moving in the right direction, she said: “I have nothing to say about that. I haven’t seen everything either.”
